Friday, June 15th. Uniqlo finally opened its doors to the Filipino fashion mainstream. Uniqlo is a Japanese casual clothing brand, which houses some of the most practical and comfortable basics this side of the planet. Celebs, bloggers and
athletes are raving about it, my curiosity kicked in and so I planned for an SM Mall of Asia field trip the next day.
Ok, I would like to think that I am a pretty smart mall rat and I knew that I needed to fuel up before bumping elbows and various body parts with the Uniqlo fanatics. So, I made reservations for lunch with Paulo at Buffet 101.
Ok, this buffet...well, let's just say I wish I had tried my luck on the Vikings waiting list. I sincerely hope the management does something about the quality of the food being served. (I am not being nit-picky, but hey. I would like to get value for my money).
Plate #1
Not appetizing at all.
Plate #2
Yes, they're dried up and I took this photo as soon as I sat down in our booth.
Dessert usually makes me happy. This one didn't.
The only thing I liked on the buffet spread. These are cheese fries.
Anyway, maybe because it was the day before Father's day and the place was bustling with so many people that service was kind of sloppy. Steak was dry, we had to fall in line for the shakes, and the tempura basket was tiny (holding at most 20 pieces of tempura) and was not refilled as often as we would like. Will I come back? Am afraid not.
After lunch, we drove back to the mall and braced ourselves for Uniqlo pandemonium. Thanks to the bloggers who were keeping a hawk eye on the situation, we knew we were up for an hour or so of falling in line. Luckily, Uniqlo has planned for consumer invasion (and panic buyers) and the wait was barely 30 minutes! Cool beans, huh?
Anyway, I was running around the place (Paulo and I split up) and was able to pick up only a few things, as I was still unfamiliar with the brand. Basics went for a special opening price of Php 590.00, and maybe that explains why the clothes were strewn carelessly all over the place -- people couldn't get enough, it's almost pathetic.
Yup, bouncers. They had them.
Super sale.
I liked the white baskets.
After 2 hours
The line to the cash registers (there were 15 of them!) was surprisingly stress-free.
Like a well-behaved shopper.
Picked up pieces from Laura Ashley, Andy Warhol and some others I forget.
Got these totes for free!
I wish it's safe to go back to Uniqlo now.
